Joseph L. Caltrider joined the firm in 1998 as an associate primarily involved in insurance defense litigation. A Elizabeth, West Virginia native, Mr. Caltrider graduated from Wirt County High School in 1988, where he was valedictorian of his graduating class and Youth Governor of the Ohio-West Virginia Youth-in-Government Model Legislature. Mr. Caltrider continued his education at Swarthmore College in Swarthmore, PA, where he obtained a B.A. degree in Political Science in 1992. While at Swarthmore College, he received the Thomas B. McCabe scholarship for leadership and service, held several offices in the Delta Upsilon Fraternity, and earned Academic All-Centennial Conference honors in 1990 and 1991 as a defensive end for the Swarthmore Garnet Tide football team. Mr. Caltrider completed his legal education at the West Virginia University College of Law in Morgantown, WV, where he received a J.D. degree in 1995. During his final year of law school, Mr. Caltrider represented the WVU College of Law in the 1992 National Trial Competition and earned recognition as a member of the National Order of Barristers.

Relocating to the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia in 1997, Mr. Caltrider concentrates his practice in the areas of personal injury and insurance defense while also continuing his real estate practice.

Mr. Caltrider has assisted seasoned litigators in the defense of multiple defendant claims, contractor liability, and coverage questions for insurance carriers.

Mr. Caltrider is licensed to practice law in West Virginia by the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals and the United States District Court for the Northern and Southern Districts of West Virginia. He is a member of the West Virginia State Bar Association and its Education Law Committee, the Jefferson County Bar Association, and the Berkeley County Bar Association. Mr. Caltrider is a participant in Habitat for Humanity programs, an advisor for the Ohio-West Virginia YMCA Youth-in-Government Model Legislative and Judicial programs, a speaker at the Shepherd College School-to-Career Academy, and a member of the Board of Trustees for the West Virginia Youth Advocate Program, Inc.
